Unique and very rare. This all-original solid gold watch was made especially for HOWARD & Co. 5th Ave., New York in 1879. This American Silversmith and Jeweler specialized in fine Silversmithing. This firm was established in 1866 by Edward T. and Joseph KP. Howard. Branches were opened in Newport and London. The last heard of from this Jeweler was 1922.

The case is all original to this movement and is in mint condition. The movement is 16 jewels, lever set, Adjusted with a serial No. 1,423,596. It is 3/4 plate nickel and is also fully marked: "Made Especially For HOWARD & Co., 5th Ave., N.Y." The dial is marked in a very rare overlapping initials: Waltham Watch Co. or AWC. 120 grams of 14k gold total weight. All jewel settings are 14k capped and screw down. NON-MAGNETIC WATCH Co. Geneva and America 1887-1905

The Non-Magnet Watch Co. sold and imported watches from the Swiss as well as contracted watch made in America. Geneva Non-Magnetic marked watches appear to be the oldest type of movement. This company sold a full line of watches high grade to low grade, as well as repeaters and ladies watches. An advertisement appeared in the monthly journal of “Locomotive Engineers” in 1887. The ad states that the “Pallard’s patent non-magnetic watches are uninfluenced by magnetism of electricity.” Each watch contains the Pallard’s patent non-magnetic, inoxidizable compensation balance and hairspring. Ad add in 1888 shows prices for 16 size Swiss style watches as low as $15 for 7 jewels and as high as $135 for 20 jewels.

The example presented here is a rare Arabic original double sunken dial Hunting model, full plate gilt, lever set, 11j, ADJUSTED No. 25270. Cased in the original nickel glass back snap and bezel with thick beveled hard rock crystals on both sides. Very clean, running. The dial has two hard to view short hairlines at 11 and 4 edge.
