***COLUMBUS WATCH Co. DIETRICH GRUEN 14k GOLD C: 1875. Fine and rare. 100 Grams of 14k yellow gold total weight. Original 14k gold case! Dietrich Gruen, born in Osdthofen, Germany in 1847, started a business as the Coumbus Watch Co. on Dec. 22,, 1874 in Columbus, Ohio. At the age of 27, he received a U.S. patent for an improved safety pinion. The new company finished movement made from Madretsch, Switzerland, a suburb of Beil. The imported movements were made in a viriety of sizes and were in nickel or gilt. The early watches usually had the initials "C.W.Co." interwined in script on the dial. The serial numbers generally ran up to around 20,000s a few examples are in the 70,000s. This example listed is No. 1277, the first months of the original production! Clean, running. Extremely rare. THIS IS A FINE COLLECTIBLE. DON'T INVEST IN THE STOCK MARKET. BUY SOMETHING PROVEN IN TIME.
DIAL: White porcelain double sunken with interwined initials in script: "C.W.Co.". Rare original dial. MOVEMENT: 16 size, hunting model, 5/8 plate nicek, lever set, "Gruens patent", "Columbus Watch Co.", No. 1277. Excellent plates, free of distration at all and original to the c14k gold case. CASE: Screw back and bezel solid 14k yellow goldmarked: "Fahys 14k MONARCH/ Pat. Apr. 22. 1879. Excellent condition. Some wear on edges, a tiny gold test visable at edge (please view images of this case provided). This case is original to the movement and dial.
