NEW YORK WATCH Co. CHESTER WOOLWORTH GRADE 4.5 SILVER CASE C: 1871. The New York Watch Co. had a rather difficult time getting started in 1866. The name of the company was changed from the Mozart watch Coo. to the New York watch Co., and it was located in Rhode Island. Before any watches had been sold, they moved to Springfield, Mass., in 1867. April 23, 1870. Shortly after the fire, in 1870, a newly designed watch was introduced. The first movements reached the marked in 1871, and the first grade was a fully jeweled movement . This is an example of this first series. Doors closed in the summer of 1876. In january 1877, the Hampden Watch Co. was organized and commenenced active operations in June 1877.

DIAL: Mint white porcelain single sunken dial signed: "NEW YORK WATCH Co.". This is a rare original key wind dial with original black blued spade fine hands. MOVEMENT: 18 size, open face, full plate gilt, key wind and key set, 15 jewels, signed; "Chester Woolworth, Spsringfield, mass.", #98116. Excellent original movement free of distraction and very strong clean, running and accurate. CASE: Massive "4*" (4 and one half oz. coin silver weight), double hinged back and bezel with a blank shield on the back cover. Inside the back cover is marked: "American Watch Co. Waltham, Mass."
