Circa: approx. 1880. Very Rare ROCKFORD 16 size movement presentation Tin. Marked "ROCKFORD WATCH CO. ROCKFORD ILL/Patd May 14, 1907". NOS never used. Screw Off with solid Top and Back with Coin Edges on both sides for a better grip. Salesman and merchants used these tins to protect movements from damage when transporting or storage. 50mm diameter and 26mm thick. Edge marked with the original glass on both sides. ROCKFORD WATCH Co. 18 Size, Hunting Model 15j Circa: 1884. Model 3, 15 jewels, full plate gilt, lever set, serial No. 229,547. This Rockford Watch is signed on the dial with a special script and has the original Flour-Da-Lee fancy black hands. The crystal is very rare because of how thick it is with beveled edges. The single sunk dial is singed in a special script and has a couple of hairlines which do not seem to distract. Scarce Rockfor running watch. THIS IS A FINE COLLECTIBLE. ROCKFORD WATCH CO. Rockford, Illinois 1873 – 1915 The Rockford Watch Company’s equipment was bought from the Cornell Watch Col, and two of Cornell’s employees, C.W. Parker and P.H. Wheeler, went to work for Rockford. The factory was located 93 miles from Chicago on the Rock Rover. The first watch was placed on the market on May1, 1878. They were key wind, 18 size, full plate expansion balance and dials made by outside contract. By 1877 the company was making ¾ plate and nickel movements that fit standard steel cases. The factory was located on the Railroad lines, and they always advertised the Railroad. The company had some problems in 1896, and the name changed to Rockford Watch Co Ltd. It closed in 1915 with pocket watch production serial numbers reaching over one million.

This example is a very low serial No. 25,579. The first year of production of the Model 1 Key Wind in 1877. 15 jewels, full plate gilt, key wind and key set, signed Rockford Watch Co., Rockford, Illinois. This watch is running and keeping time. The case is a 3oz. coin silver open face key wind case built by NEWPORT COIN. Very nice. The white porcelain dial has one very fine hairline, which does not distract. THIS IS A FINE COLLECTIBLE. Single STAR Rarity in the historic price guides, Lever set, three (3) finger nickel bridge model, "Butler" finished plates, Adjusted, 14k gold center wheel, marked "540", serial No. 624,653. The nickel glass back is a rare original Rockford produced salesman's sample display case featuring beaded edges on both sides. The example for sale is a very scarce 1 first MODEL produced in 1878. The case, dial, and movement are all original to one another. Model 1, 15 jewels, Key Wind and Key Set, Full plate Gilt, (German Jeweler Private Contract), J.K. LANOEMILIH LERMUN, OHIO, Serial No. 100,119. Remarkable, clean original plates. The dial is mint; white porcelain single sunk and marked: ROCKFORD WATCH Co./ILLINOIS. The case is a 4 oz. coin silver double hinged back and bezel NEWPORT COIN with the original super thick beveled crystal! Very scarce in this all original state.

This Rockford Key Wind is presented with a very rare original private label dial marked: "HARNER.SILVEN." 18 Size, Open Face, Key Wind & Dey Set, Full Plate Gilt, 11j, Serial No. 52,886. The first 12 months of production of the key wind watch. This is interesting because Rockford produced this watch in 1877 at a time when private labels were always offered. 1n the 1870s, HARNER Razors & Blades began merchandising Blades and Razors to the public and latter became famous. We think this private label has it's origin from the early days of this company as a marketing support adding prestige to their name in 1878.
